To me, it's all about "adding value".
If we are seen as being able to deliver a service (I hate thinking of ELT as a product) and actually doing it in ways that are timely, needs-based, effective and student-centred, then I believe there will be an ongoing demand for us.
Of course I can't predict whether the advantages seen to be derived from learning English will remain so, whether perceived opportunities will translate into reality, or whether another player will emerge should Western influence falter.
Still, while those of us teaching overseas are subjected to the annual uncertainty of contract renewal, it remains difficult to see whether "The Road goes ever on and on".
